The Algarve

The southern coastal area of Portugal known as the Algarve has been a haven for holiday makers for decades. Even before the 'package' holiday became known of the Portuguese would holiday here throughout the year. Known for its expanse of beaches, impeccable seafood and superb wine the Algarve offers something for everyone.

36 championship golf courses lie across the Algarve and these can all be reached from Privada within 40 mins.

The Algarve is known as the sunniest place in Europe and its easy to see why. Blue skies are evident all year which helps the growth of grapes for their superb wine but also helps Portugal be the largest producer of cork for that all important stopper!

Privada is just 10 mins drive from the Algarve's only motorway. This stretch of very quiet road provides easy access along the southern most tip of Portugal and makes getting around really easy. Privada is also only 30 mins from the Spanish boarder and only 90 mins from the gorgeous Spanish city of Seville.

Head north either by superb train or quiet motorway and you can be in Lisbon in less than 2 hours. This vibrant, history ridden city is a must for those who love to explore and shop. If you go, you must visit Café Pastéis de Belém: the home of the Portuguese national tart, the Pastel De Nata... we dare you to only have one!

The Island of Armona can be reached from a jetty in Olhao, just 15 mins drive from Privada. Take the querky ferry (its approx just 4 euro's return) over to the Island. Get off and take a drink at the café next to the landing jetty. Once refreshed walk down the path... all the way until you get to the beach at the opposite end of the Island, it will take you about 15mins at a strolling pace. Walk along the boardwalk and out to the beach and experience shallow, warm crystal clear waters and amazingly quiet beaches, even in August... but shush, don't tell everyone...
